Beast Mode

When the warrior fades and the monster within takes full control.

In the dark fantasy world of Claymore, this term describes the catastrophic transformation where a warrior succumbs to their inner Yoma nature. While the Organization classifies this simply as Awakening, fans often refer to the heightened state of power and ferocity as Beast Mode. It represents the ultimate failure of suppression techniques used by these half-human hunters.

Lore & Background

History records very few instances where a Claymore retains any semblance of self during this shift. Most become mindless predators hunted down by their former comrades. However, certain legends speak of an immortal hunter who walked the line between man and monster, proving that consciousness might survive even in the deepest abyss.

In Their Own Story

The forest floor trembled as she knelt, her breathing ragged against the cold air. Shadows lengthened around her, not from the moon, but from the black energy leaking through her pores. She tried to grip her sword, but her fingers were hardening into claws. The hunger roared louder than her memories, a voice demanding blood that was no longer human.

Reader's Guide

The mechanics of this transformation rely on the unbridled release of yoki, the energy source within Claymores. Normally suppressed by rigorous training and willpower, this power surges when a warrior pushes beyond their human limits or sustains critical damage. Visually, the body undergoes grotesque changes: skin hardens into armor-like plates, eyes glow with predatory light, and black veins spread across the face. Limitations are severe; once fully awakened, the Claymore identity is usually erased by the Yoma consciousness. However, rare exceptions exist where a warrior retains partial human cognition while wielding immense power. This state grants superhuman strength and regeneration but demands constant feeding on yoki-rich prey to sustain the form. Notable users include Priscilla, who uniquely maintained her mind during this shift, becoming a hunter of other awakened beings. Most others become mindless monsters hunted by the Organization. The transition is irreversible for standard Claymores, marking the tragic end of their service and humanity.
