The existence of Blood Mist challenges the Organization's understanding of Awakening. While standard Awakened Beings are hunted and destroyed by Claymores for their physical threat, a user of Blood Mist is nearly impossible to pin down physically. They can infiltrate any location, possess high-ranking officials or powerful warriors, and manipulate events from within without ever revealing their true form. This makes them perhaps the most insidious enemies a Claymore can face, as the battle shifts from a clash of swords to a war for the soul itself.

In Their Own Story

The air in the ruined village grew heavy with the scent of copper, though no blood had yet been spilled on the cobblestones. The Claymore stood frozen, her senses screaming that something was wrong; there were no footprints, no shadows moving against the moonlight. Then, a whisper brushed against her mind, not from outside, but from within her own chest. A crimson haze began to coalesce in the center of the square, swirling with malicious intent before vanishing into thin air. In that instant, she realized too late: the enemy was no longer in front of her; it was already inside.

Reader's Guide

The mechanics of Blood Mist involve the user converting their entire physical mass into a gaseous state composed of blood energy. This allows for instantaneous travel across continents by merging with the ambient air or flowing through water and soil. Visually, this manifests as a swirling crimson fog that often takes on vague, humanoid silhouettes before dispersing completely. The user can then reconstitute their body at will or possess a host organism, overriding its consciousness to control it like a puppet while maintaining the mist's regenerative properties. However, this power has severe limitations. If the ambient air is too thin or if the mist is dispersed by powerful wind-based Yoki attacks, the user may struggle to reform. Furthermore, possessing a host requires the target to have sufficient life force; if the host dies or resists with immense willpower, the Blood Mist can be forced out. Their existence serves as a warning that even the most disciplined warriors can fall to this fluid form of corruption.
